‘Hexed’ Conjures Up a Colorful New Trailer

Months after the first, a second trailer for Disney’s Hexed has hit the internet. And for those who were turned off by the first, this may better sell the movie to you.

While it still shows Billie Doe (Hailee Steinfeld) as an outsider, it also reveals where her magic comes from. Her mother Alice (Rashida Jones) was a witch, and when baby Billie was almost snatched up by a magic bird, she gave her daughter a necklace to protect her. But teenagers with secret powers don’t stay hidden for long, so it’s no surprise that Billie discovers what she can do and accidentally gets pulled into the world of Hexe.

That’d be fine on its own, but then she realizes that Alice is also along for the ride. So not only does Billie have to learn her powers and avoid getting snatched up by Queen Celeste (Jodie Foster), she’ll also learn why her mom left magic behind and learn about her family’s history with magic. That sounds like a good setup, helped by the flashy hijinks of Billie’s magic to the unreality of creatures Walton Goggins’ Crumbchuck. (Using Paramore’s “Ain’t It Fun” is also a good touch of scoring after the previous trailer’s use of Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen.”)
