Xbox has launched its new Nano Controller, designed for easy portability and smaller hands. Even so, gamers with larger mitts may still find this lightweight controller worth picking up.
Announced last month, the Xbox Nano Controller offers the functionality of a traditional Xbox Wireless Controller in a much smaller package. Measuring 133mm x 66.5mm x 36.6mm, it's a little more than half the height and notably slimmer than its older sibling, as well as roughly a third the weight at 101g.
I got to try the new Xbox controller ahead of its launch, and I've had a good experience so far.
The Nano Controller's small rectangular form factor doesn't feel cramped, as those familiar with the Wireless Controller might expect. While the Nano doesn't have its sibling's large ergonomic handles, its smaller substitutes and remarkably lightweight build still make it easy to hold.
Forgoing larger handles also helps keep the Nano's design small enough to comfortably fit in a jacket pocket or handbag, making it more likely to be used with portable devices. Like the Xbox Wireless Controller, the Nano Controller can connect to Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, tablets, compatible smart TVs, and iOS or Android devices.
In addition to this increased portability, the Nano Controller's reduced size and lightweight build specifically targets people with smaller hands, making it easier for children and petite adults to use. The Nano's design lets players' fingers travel a shorter distance when switching between buttons, while its lightweight design should help them play longer without getting fatigued.
