School's in session, and these tips can help you clear out some digital space without breaking the bank.
Fall is here, and that means school is back in session. If you use Google Drive, you get up to 15GB of free storage for all your schoolwork, photos, videos and other documents, but that space can run out quickly if it’s your primary digital storage. And Google told CNET that it’s testing out a new storage policy in some regions, so you might have less than 15GB of free storage.
If you’re running low on storage, Google has likely prompted you to upgrade to a Google One plan, but you don’t have to pay for more digital storage. If you’re willing to create another Google account, you can transfer all your old email and files for free. If that sounds like too much of a hassle, here are some other tricks we use to clear out space in our digital filing cabinet that you might find useful.
I recommend trying these tips on your laptop rather than a phone, as you’ll have an easier time sorting through and managing files. I’ll walk you through both processes in case you only have access to a mobile device.
This trick was a lifesaver for us. If you want to keep the majority of your items in Google Drive and Gmail, you can free up space by sorting each service by file size and deleting only one or two large files instead of a few dozen smaller items.
