Refurbished tech is moving mainstream | The used-smartphone market is expected to grow by more than 12% in 2026, according to data cited by The Atlantic. Around 50% of US adults surveyed said they had considered buying refurbished technology in the previous year. The choice is increasingly about value, rather than simply buying the newest device. Saurabh Gupta, Director & Group CFO, Dixon Technologies said that the company is also exploring opportunities in silicon photonics-based optical transceivers and advanced packaging for AI data centres, aiming to enter higher-margin businesses and improve profitability.
Saurabh Gupta, Director & Group CFO of Dixon Technologies , spoke to CNBC-TV18 about the company's July-September quarter of 2026 (Q2FY27) earnings, market share gains, and margin pressures.
He also detailed the company's strategic expansion into high-margin electronic manufacturing services (EMS), including optical transceivers, and provided an outlook on mobile volume growth and upcoming partnerships.
The industry is degrowing by a large extent, but you are doing well. Are you gaining market share, and do you have some rough numbers?
We feel that the industry, in the July-September quarter of 2026 (Q2FY27), has contracted by almost 20%. Our degrowth year-on-year in Q2 has just been 8%. So definitely we have gained some market share. We have been able to sustain the volumes. Going forward, from the January-March quarter of 2027 (Q4FY27), we feel that our export volume should significantly pick for an anchor customer.
