DC’s ‘Poison Ivy’ Series May Be Getting a Big ‘Penguin’ Boost

Here’s some enticing news for the Poison Ivy faithful: the rumored in-the-works show from DC Studios and Warner Bros. focusing on the character may have just taken a big step forward.

According to a Deadline report, Lauren LeFranc, showrunner on HBO’s Emmy-winning Penguin, may sign on to the Poison Ivy show as a producer.

“LeFranc would only be producing the new series and not writing the expansion of the DC Comics character’s story,” the trade writes. “There are currently no writers attached. Additionally, the TV series, which would go to HBO if it gets picked up, would not be part of Matt Reeves’ Batman Universe, which is led by Robert Pattinson playing the caped crusader from Gotham City, sources say.”

Poison Ivy, aka botanist Dr. Pamela Isley, has a very special connection with plant life that has seen her cast as both a villain and a hero—and a slippery mix of both—since her comic-book debut in 1966. Uma Thurman notched a memorable live-action portrayal in 1997’s Batman & Robin, and Ivy is also a main character of HBO Max’s recent animated Harley Quinn series, voiced by Lake Bell.

The character also popped up in live-action on Gotham and Batwoman and has appeared in too many video games and animated shows (including Batman: The Animated Series) to list off here.

Suffice to say, she is a very popular figure—and if DC is looking to add to its live-action HBO presence after Lanterns (which just wrapped its first season) and the upcoming The People v.
