CMF’s First Speakers Look Like Milk Cartons and Have Swappable Buttons

CMF is officially expanding its repertoire of products with the CMF S&M, the company’s first series of milk cart—I mean, Bluetooth speakers.

As CMF’s tease last week suggested, it’s now in the wireless speaker game with not one but two speakers in different sizes. The smaller speaker is the S, which CMF describes as “grab-and-go” and is meant for bringing to the park or the beach (or presumably your school cafeteria). The M, on the other hand, is larger and meant for at-home listening and may fit comfortably in your refrigerator door. There’s obviously a weight difference here: the S weighs 334g while the M weighs almost double, clocking in at 604g.

With that size difference, there’s also a difference in audio quality. CMF says the S comes with a single 45mm driver and two passive radiators, while the M has two drivers, a woofer, and a tweeter. Based on that, I’m expecting a fairly drastic difference in the sound between the two, but it’s hard to know for sure until you hear for yourself. Surprisingly, both have the same max battery life of 18 hours. Neither contains any dietary calcium to my knowledge.

CMF says both models will have AI that adjusts EQ in real time and “Ultra Bass,” which is meant to beef up the low end. You can also change to preset EQs using the Nothing X app or make your own. Software-wise, you also get Auracast compatibility, so you can link a bunch of speakers together, as well as support for stereo sound, so if you have two, you can put them next to each other and split the channels for left/right sound, even if you’re lactose intolerant.
