It’s been a long wait for the Blue Eye Samurai faithful, but relief is in sight. Netflix has finally announced a date for season two. Six new episodes of the acclaimed animated series will premiere on January 19, 2027, and there’s even a new teaser video to share the news:
Season one ended with Mizu (Maya Erskine) heading to London in search of her father, and season two will pick right back up with her quest.
“London in 1657 had a thriving culture of illicit activity, something that fittingly parallels our story of Japan,” Blue Eye Samurai creators, executive producers, and writers Amber Noizumi and Michael Green told Netflix blog Tudum.
The change of scenery will bring plenty of conflict for the show’s fiery heroine.
“For the first time, she’ll have to confront what it’s like to stand out as Asian in a sea of white faces. And then find out what it means to be a woman during one of the most oppressive times in English history,” the duo added. “Mizu is such a force of nature—we’re taking a volatile element and dropping it into an unstable equilibrium and then waiting for a chain reaction.”
And yeah, they know you’ve been waiting a long time—since November 2023, to be precise—to see Mizu back in action, and they have a reasonable explanation as to why: it takes a long time to make a quality show like Blue Eye Samurai. “The care that every single member of our team poured into researching those worlds, then crafting them brushstroke by brushstroke into breathtaking, moving art, is nothing short of a miracle to us,” they said.
