Anthropic files for IPO even as losses surge to $80B

Anthropic, one of the leading artificial intelligence (AI) companies and the developer of the large language model Claude, has filed for an initial public offering (IPO), moving closer to becoming a publicly listed company.

The company plans to list on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker symbol ANT.

Anthropic was co-founded by Dario Amodei and others in 2021. In the first half of 2026, it reported revenue of $16.2 billion, while losses stood at $80.74 billion. In comparison, the company reported revenue of $1.16 billion and losses of $12.96 billion in the first half of 2025.

Anthropic’s growth has been remarkable, with revenue rising from just $41 million in 2023 to $4.5 billion in 2025.

However, the company has not specified a date for its Nasdaq listing, disclosed the proposed share price or stated how much it plans to raise through the IPO.

Anthropic’s IPO is expected to be closely watched across the technology industry, given the rapid advances made by AI companies. The company was valued at $965 billion in its most recent funding round in May 2026.

Interestingly, Anthropic market rival OpenAI has said it will go for a public listing next year.

In its IPO filing, Anthropic said, “We believe that AI is one of the most consequential technologies in human history. If managed well, it could rapidly accelerate scientific innovation, greatly increase economic growth rates, bring cures for major diseases within reach and solve problems that have resisted generations of human efforts.”

“Anthropic aims to realise these while navigating and preventing the risks that come with a technological revolution this fast and this powerful,”
