A group of activists has a message for Elon Musk: We know where you live. According to a report from Wired, a secretive collective going by Capytistas (a riff on the Indigenous insurgents of southern Mexico who go by Zapatistas) is planning to release the home addresses of several extremely wealthy individuals, including the world’s current richest person.
The group, which claims to have secured more than $1 million in funding for its project to out the wealthiest people in the world and their properties, intends to share the home addresses of more than 150 locations that are allegedly owned by members of the 1% class. Their first release primarily focuses on Musk and the Musk-adjacent, and will supposedly out the locations of not just Elon’s home, but his brother Kimbal and several members of the Tesla board of directors.
Per Wired, which reviewed a copy of the Capytistas’ dossier that it will release on Musk, the group has apparently amassed at least 32 addresses tied to Musk and company, most of which seem to have not been previously publicly reported. The group also claims that the first data dump will include more than 3,500 records that may show, in their estimation, “criminal exploits and security lapses.”
The tactic that the group is taking is pretty obviously a form of doxing, which the group does not seem to have any sort of moral quandaries about.
