Threads users will now be able to personalize reactions to their posts with images or animations.
Threads is testing a new custom like option in some markets, which enables users to add a personalized image or animation to their posts. The custom graphic will then be displayed when other users tap like within their updates.
As shown in this example screenshot, the new option will enable users to attach an emoji, sticker or GIF to be shown to anybody who likes their posts.
The custom option is linked to a users’ profile rather than an individual post, so users can’t add a unique reaction for each update. Even so, it’s another way to customize and personalize Threads, which could add a new dimension to sharing.
Users can add a new animation for each season, or to tie in with a major event, while brands can align their like button with a new product or project.
This could also be another way to facilitate more interactions and encourage users to like more posts, in order to see what other users have added as their personal like display.
So while it may seem like a small update, it does have a lot of engagement and interest-driving potential, which could make it a valuable addition to the platform.
Threads Chief Connor Hayes said the option is currently being tested with select users in South Korea, Brazil and Indonesia.
