NYU Langone brings OpenEvidence’s clinical AI into the EHR systemwide

OpenEvidence is expanding its footprint in New York City through a partnership with NYU Langone Health, adding another marquee institution to an existing concentration of partnerships across the city's academic medical centers.

OpenEvidence's AI-powered clinical evidence platform is embedded directly into NYU Langone's Epic electronic health record (EHR) workflows. NYU Langone has more than 12 million outpatient visits annually, 421,000 emergency department visits, seven inpatient locations and more than 400 outpatient locations. The integration will span NYU Langone's hospitals, ambulatory network and the Family Health Centers and will also reach physicians who are training at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine.

The system has more than 6,000 physicians and faculty, 2,000+ residents and fellows and 54,000 employees.

“At NYU Langone, we are committed to working with OpenEvidence to make the latest technology available to our clinicians in a safe and practical environment at scale,” said Nader Mherabi, executive vice president and vice dean, chief digital and information officer at NYU Langone Health said in a statement.

OpenEvidence developed an AI-powered medical search engine and a generative AI chatbot exclusively for doctors, which summarizes and simplifies evidence-based medical information. It has grown to become one of the most widely used medical AI and CDS tools in the industry. The company says it's "patient-aware clinical intelligence" uses agentic clinical AI to integrate details of the patient record with the evidence from the medical literature.

NYU Langone clinicians will be able to ask complex clinical questions in natural language and receive answers grounded in peer-reviewed medical literature and read against the patient’s own clinical record, all without leaving their Epic workflow, according to OpenEvidence executives.
