Phantom Blade Zero doesn't follow the RPG trend of having weapons in different tiers that you replace with newer ones. Instead, it lets you upgrade the weapons you're using to match the difficulty of the locations you're in. With this system, you can keep using the same weapon throughout the game if you'd like and just keep upgrading it to stay effective.
However, to upgrade these weapons, you'll need resources specific to the weapon type, similar to how you choose your skills. This means you can upgrade different weapon types, but because each type has finite resources, you need to choose which weapons go best together.
To upgrade your weapons in Phantom Blade Zero, you'll need to use the bells you use to upgrade abilities and fast travel around the map. At the bell, select Upgrade Equipment to open your inventory and choose what you want to improve. Hold the prompted button (X on PS5) to upgrade the weapon you choose.
From this menu, you can choose from your Main Weapons, Phantom Edges and Accessories, and they all get upgraded similarly. Choose the item you want to upgrade, and it will show you what resources you need. Although the resources differ, they all require Remnant Dust, just like upgrading your abilities.
For regular weapons, there are three different weapon types to choose from: One-Handed, Two-Handed and Dual-Wield . To upgrade these, you'll need Forged Metal, Twinned Metal and Broadplate Metal, respectively. You'll also need Solvent , which applies to any weapon you're upgrading.
