Ubisoft is shutting down one of its studios and laying off developers at another. Ubisoft is one of the biggest video game companies in the world and home to some of the most-recognizable franchises. Ubisoft's bread-and-butter are the open world Assassin's Creed games, but the company is also well-known for its various Tom Clancy projects, Just Dance, Prince of Persia, and Rayman, with the latter set to have a new game release in the near future.
While it was originally supposed to launch in October, Rayman Legends Retold is now releasing on December 3 alongside a free copy of Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition. Rayman Legends Retold is a remake of the critically-acclaimed Rayman Legends, which first released in 2013. The pair of Rayman games will cap off a busy year for Ubisoft, marked by major new game releases like Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, notable game cancellations, and significant layoffs.
A credible source reveals which projects in addition to the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake Ubisoft canceled last month.
Unfortunately, the Ubisoft layoffs are not over. It's been confirmed by Eurogamer that Ubisoft Singapore, the studio behind Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced , is losing 70 positions. Additionally, it's been confirmed that Ubisoft's RedLynx studio is being completely shut down. RedLynx shutting down will reportedly impact 52 positions at Ubisoft. RedLynx released its first game all the way back in the year 2000, with Ubisoft acquiring the studio in 2011. If RedLynx had any games in development, they had not been revealed to the public, so it's hard to say if anything is being canceled by this shutdown.
