The Street Fighter Movie Debuts To Some Dismal Critic Scores

We've seen a surprising surge in video game adaptations on the big screen in recent years, with the upcoming release of Paramount's Street Fighter being one of the biggest upcoming projects to look forward to. While September's Resident Evil had paved the way with its explosive box office success, Street Fighter's early critic reviews seem to be struggling to live up to the hype.

Although the franchise isn't exactly a stranger to poor review scores, with the original 1994 Street Fighter sitting at a 20 percent score in both critic and user reviews from Rotten Tomatoes, the newest film is already off to a rocky start.

As shared by DiscussingFilm on X, the early reviews for the newest Street Fighter movie adaptation launched to a measly 28% according to critics, with early reviews citing that despite delivering on the visual style and action, the character development and convoluted narrative take away from the experience as a whole.

Although early previews still aren't looking too hot, it is worth noting that since the post made by DiscussingFilm went live, Street Fighter's review score has rocketed from 28 percent all the way up to 43 percent. While it's still not an ideal score by any means, the growing numbers seem to indicate the situation is a bit more nuanced than some reviewers are making the film out to be.

Even with the improved review score, it's still a little ironic that Street Fighter is debuting to far lower review scores than this year's Mortal Kombat 2, which the cast openly cracked jokes about at the Game Awards last year for "only caring about the money."
