We were expecting an update on The Elder Scrolls 6 this month, eight years on from its 2018 reveal, and we have one. Bethesda has officially confirmed that, as the internet predicted, and rumors suggested, the next game in the series after Skyrim will officially be titled The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel.
The Skyrim studio posted a video to celebrate its 40th anniversary, closing with the big reveal that the next Elder Scrolls game will be called Sentinel. "You know, everybody’s always asking about Elder Scrolls 6. And we thought, hey, given the moment, what a perfect time to tell you what The Elder Scrolls 6 is actually called," Bethesda head Todd Howard says at the end of the video. That leads smoothly into the logo for the next Elder Scrolls game appearing, confirming it will be called Sentinel.
As exciting as it is to hear anything new about The Elder Scrolls 6, the fact that it's called Sentinel won't come as all that big a surprise to most fans of the series. Earlier this year, Xbox boss Asha Sharma revealed she'd been shown a build of the game, masking its name with asterisks. Based on the number of asterisks, those with knowledge of The Elder Scrolls' world arrived at the conclusion that there was a strong chance the sixth game would be titled Sentinel.
That educated guess was effectively confirmed last week when reports noted Bethesda planned on revealing a little more about its next Elder Scrolls game, although nothing more than its name, which would indeed be Sentinel.
