It's unclear if the pause will affect the movie's 2028 release date
Warner Bros. and DC Studios have paused production on The Batman Part 2, which was in the middle of filming in London. According to a statement from DC Studios, filming has paused due to director Matt Reeves needing to step away for a "family matter."
"Production on The Batman Part 2 has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter," DC Studios said (via Deadline). "Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon."
It's not clear for how long Reeves will be away, nor for how long production will be paused. Deadline's sources said it's too soon to know if the production pause will affect The Batman Part 2's release date, which is currently Feb. 18, 2028. The film has already been delayed several times, and was originally supposed to premiere in theaters in October 2025 before being shuffled all the way to February 2028. If that date holds, nearly six years will have passed between The Batman's March 2022 release and its sequel.
Reeves' first Batman movie followed a young Bruce Wayne/Batman (Robert Pattinson) investigating a series of murders carried out by The Riddler (Paul Dano).
