A new report claims that Sony Bend’s next title is a third-person game with online co-op that, thank god, isn’t an inevitably doomed live-service.
As anyone who has spent what feels like a lifetime waiting for Naughty Dog to release something new knows, most of PlayStation’s first-party studios have had a pretty rough generation. Alongside the increased development time and ballooning costs of triple-A games, Sony’s push for live-service has massively impacted many of its teams.
Bluepoint is perhaps the best example of this since it was ultimately shuttered after the cancellation of its God of War live-service game, but Bend Studios is definitely the runner-up. Bend was another studio pushed to make a live-service game that eventually got canned, but it thankfully looks like brighter days are ahead with its next project.
Earlier this week, MP1st shared a report that gives us our first proper details on what Sony Bend is currently up to. According to them, the new game is third-person and features online co-op, but notably doesn’t have any Games as a Service elements to it, unlike the cancelled “Mirror Pond” project that previously leaked.
According to MP1st’s sources, the project is set to be announced at some point in 2027. The site has also heard that the game is surprisingly aiming to release that year as well, since it’s “much further along in development” than you might think, considering Bend had an entire game cancelled just last year.
It’s worth noting that plans could change during development, so some live-service elements could sneak their way into the game.
