TL;DR Google Photos v8.0 contains code that lets Ask Photos create calendar events, and we got it to pull an event’s name, date, time, and description straight from a photo of a poster.
Ask Photos asks for calendar access and then hands the event to Android’s own confirmation prompt, suggesting it works with your default calendar app rather than just Google Calendar.
The feature is still a work in progress, as Ask Photos assumed a US time zone the poster never mentioned, shifting the event to the wrong date and time in our calendar.
We’ve all been there: you spot a poster for a concert, a comedy show, or a local food festival, snap a photo of it, and promptly forget about it until the event has come and gone. Google Photos already offers a shortcut to add events from some digital tickets and screenshots, but it’s easy to miss and doesn’t help much with a random flyer you photographed on the street. Gemini can already help you add events to Google Calendar , but that means leaving your gallery and switching apps. Google now appears to be working on letting you hand this job over to Ask Photos instead.
