Sam Altman Now Says He Wants “You To Have So Much RAM”

Last week, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confidently said that consumers having their own RAM was "terrible", and that you, the gluttonous gamer that you are, should void it all to data centers so that people can AI generate deepfakes to trick boomers with on Facebook.

AI companies have spent the last two years acting like there would never be another election or any regulation over their unilateral control of a technology that is disrupting society across the globe. But now that the Democrats have swept the US midterms, campaigning for a public increasingly fed up with data centers—even winning Texas and Kansas—these same AI companies are backpedaling. That includes Altman.

"People should always be in control of the future," he posted mere hours after the results started pouring in, and after renaming himself 'Ram Altman'. "OpenAI is against the notion that it would be acceptable for people to be relegated to a role of doing things that 'AI systems think makes sense to reward in humans.' People should not cede control of the future to superintelligence, and that requirement should ultimately constrain AI progress."

So, one commenter rightfully asked, "why u want my RAM then," to which Altman replied, "I want you to have so much RAM. Let's build more."

No, he doesn't. " He was specifically talking about running local AI models, but it's easy to interpret from his phrasing that he was frustrated with anyone who bought a substantial amount of RAM, like gamers or video editors.
