It's really hard to find a game with a better faction system than Fallout: New Vegas. For many, including myself, it's the gold standard when it comes to balancing both mechanics and narrative intrigue. Fallout: New Vegas has its reputation for a reason, but there are still other RPGs that deserve the same level of praise for how they handle factions.
What New Vegas is able to do with its factions is truly impressive. However, there are a lot of great RPGs out there that are worth checking out, especially for genre fans who love some good faction-focused gameplay. Some of these games share similarities with New Vegas' take on factions, while others offer a completely different approach.
This is bound to be a divisive addition, since the game doesn't go as deep with its narrative, but The Outer Worlds is far from the only Obsidian game featured on this list. That makes sense, considering that this developer is the one responsible for bringing New Vegas to life in the first place. For example, both faction systems feature consequences tied to in-game decisions, disguise mechanics to covertly infiltrate other factions, and emphasize player reputation.
These FPS games capture the essence of what makes Fallout special, with great gameplay that's perfect for fans of Bethesda's franchise.
The Outer Worlds ' key differences are found in its humorous take on factions and their backgrounds, offering up options to bribe one's way out of bad reputation, and a simpler endgame decision that requires players to side with either The Board or Phineas Welles.
