Zach Cregger, the director of the newly released Resident Evil movie, has revealed his top four favorite video games, and he made some solid choices.

Before he listed off his top four to Regal, Cregger said they came "off the top of my head," so if he had more time, he might have chosen other games. Or he may not have. In any event, here are the games that Cregger singled out as his four faves:

People are saying that Cregger earned his "gamer cred" for these specific choices (via GamesRadar). His Dark Souls 3 pick was not surprising given Cregger was known to stream the game on Twitch over the years. It's also not surprising that he called out Resident Evil 4, as he borrowed from that game for his movie. In the same interview, Resident Evil actor Austin Abrams, who plays Bryan, said Cregger asked him to play Resident Evil 2, 4, and 7 to prepare for the movie.

Cregger received a lot of backlash from core fans of the Resident Evil series over the direcion he took the movie and how it didn't feature any stories or characters from the games. He said he was naive to think fans would embrace his ideas. Things seemed to work out for Cregger in the end, as Resident Evil scored fantastic reviews and had a gigantic opening weekend at the box office.
