Pokemon Developer Is Ending Major Updates for Its New RPG Just 2 Months After Launch

Game Freak is winding down major post-launch updates for Beast of Reincarnation just over two months after the action RPG made its debut. Beast of Reincarnation is ending significant post-launch support just after the Pokemon developer spent much of the game's short life responding directly to plenty of player criticism.

Released on August 4, Beast of Reincarnation marked one of Game Freak's most ambitious attempts to build something new outside of Pokemon, but its reception at launch was quite mixed. Players praised elements like Emma and Koo's relationship and the parry-heavy combat, while criticism quickly formed around the camera, small text, performance, unskippable cutscenes, pacing, and various bugs. Just one day after launch, Game Freak promised a "series of continuous updates" based on that feedback, and director Kota Furushima later apologized for areas that failed to provide a sufficiently enjoyable experience. Since then, Game Freak has spent the weeks after release trying to improve Beast of Reincarnation almost as quickly as players were finding things they wanted to be changed.

The scores for Game Freak's action RPG Beast of Reincarnation are officially in, and together, they suggest the Pokemon developer clearly has a lane.

Now the game's rapid update cycle appears to be coming to a close. On Twitter, Game Freak says the next Beast of Reincarnation patch is tentatively scheduled for October 19 and will be the "final patch in this ongoing phase of major post-launch updates," ending the update cadence fans have been used to seeing since launch.
