Playgama launches AI Game Index to rank coding agents by real player engagement

Claude Opus is building more than half of the new AI-made games on Playgama, but OpenAI’s Astra is making the ones players like most.

That’s according to the company’s first AI Game Index, which tracks 4,200 games published between September 22 and October 21.

The index, which Playgama says is the industry’s first of its kind, ranks AI models and coding agents on playtime, player likes and share of new games across games built on its Playgama Sandbox platform, according to the company. It says it’s measuring what benchmarks can’t: whether anyone wants to play what a model builds. The data will update daily.

Claude Opus powers 54% of new games, according to the index. Second to Opus is OpenAI’s Sol at 11%, then Claude Sonnet at 8%, OpenAI’s Astra at 3.8%, Claude Fable at 3%, Gemini Pro at 1.9%, Gemini Flash at 1.8% and lastly DeepSeek at 1.6%. According to Playgama’s press release, Opus climbed up to 62% last week while Sol fell to 8%.

Players are responding differently than developers. The report stated that players like games built on OpenAI’s Astra the most, with a median 65 likes per 1,000 plays. Claude Sonnet and OpenAI’s Sol tie for second at 58, then DeepSeek at 42, Gemini Pro at 40, Claude Opus at 39, Claude Fable at 30 and Gemini Flash at 30. Opus ranks sixth of eight rated models, while Astra’s median is about 67% higher than Opus’s.

Astra-built games also appear to be holding players attention for the longest amount of time, at a median 4 minutes 58 seconds per play.
