One Piece is currently in the climax of the Elbaf arc, where the Straw Hat Pirates are aiding the Giants of Elbaf to fight against the threat of the World Government, who intend to seize the country and turn them into slave warriors for the impending Great War. In this massive battle that is currently unfolding in Elbaf, Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates are constantly evolving. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the story, has lined up some massive upgrades for the crew, with most of them pertaining to the power of Haki.

The Elbaf arc is largely structured like a training arc for the Straw Hat Pirates, and this is particularly true in the case of Luffy's two wings, Zoro and Sanji. As things stand, the Straw Hat Pirates are far from being elites of the One Piece world. Despite being an Emperor crew, a status which they attained in One Piece chapter 1053, they still need to get stronger. Eiichiro Oda is using Elbaf as a training ground for this crew and strengthening the two Wings of Luffy, who are crucial to making him the Pirate King. The primary way for Oda to strengthen the Wings is by granting them access to the Color of the Supreme King, also known as Conqueror's Haki. While Zoro first tapped into Conqueror's Haki in the Wano Country arc, he was fully unaware of it and did not know how to control it, making him a weak user of this skill.
