Ocarina Of Time Remake May Hint At A Majora’s Mask Update, But Not Everyone Is So Sure

As players make their way through the new Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, folks are also looking for any hint about what might come next. Specifically, Zelda fans are wondering if Nintendo might repeat what it did during the 3DS era and follow up its latest Ocarina of Time remake with one of the less-revered but arguably much cooler and more experimental N64 game The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. A 3DS remake of the sequel followed four years after the Ocarina of Time one, so it doesn’t seem an unreasonable next step. But is there anything in the Switch 2 version of Ocarina of Time that might hint at a Majora’s Mask remake? Yes and no.

Some of the “hints” players are pointing at were in the original Ocarina of Time, but they can still be read as hints toward Majora’s Mask. The original Majora’s Mask launched just two years after Ocarina of Time in 2000, and the game reuses a fair bit of Ocarina’s assets and character models, so a few of the characters that would appear in a hypothetical Majora’s Mask remake are in Ocarina of Time. The primary antagonist in Majora’s Mask is a Skull Kid and they appear in Ocarina, as does the Happy Mask Salesman, who is also a central character in the sequel.

Comments made by the Skull Kid in the Ocarina of Time remake have spawned discussion around a potential Majora’s Mask remake, but as others have pointed out, the dialogue people are pointing to references a quest within Ocarina of Time , though if you haven’t played the game in a while, you might think it’s a direct nod to the events of Majora’s Mask .
