Nintendo Officially Recreates 1998 Ad with Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake

A new trailer has been released for the Nintendo Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and it pays tribute to one of the commercials that aired for the N64 version. Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released on the N64 in November 1998, serving as the system's major release for that holiday season. The remake will be released almost exactly 28 years later, and it will likely be the last major exclusive for Switch 2 before the end of 2026.

Much of the promotion surrounding the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has centered around the N64 version. The original is still considered one of the greatest games in the series, and one of the most influential video games ever made. Nintendo is clearly trying to capitalize on the fond memories players have, which can even be seen in some of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's pre-order bonuses.

Dark Link is one of the most iconic foes in Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Nintendo offers a first look at the enemy in the upcoming remake.

As part of the ad campaign promoting the N64 version of Zelda: Ocarina of Time , Nintendo released a commercial that featured major moments from the game between snippets of text in old English. A new trailer has now debuted for the Switch 2 remake of the game, which takes the core concept of the original commercial, while updating some of the text. Nintendo did something similar in 2025, when Paul Rudd appeared in a Switch 2 ad based on an old commercial he starred in for the SNES.
