Drop in hardware unit sales bring down Nintendo's dedicated video game platform segment by 15.3% to $5.7 billion
Nintendo reported a 12.1% decrease in net sales for the six months ended September 30, 2026, primarily due to reduced hardware sales.
Operating profit increased 49.1% to ¥216.5 billion ($1.3 billion), supported by steady software sales from new titles such as Splatoon Raiders alongside a first quarter US tariff refund.
Nintendo noted that the tariffs "related to the refunds were primarily borne by the company rather than passed on to consumers through product prices."
Although software unit sales increased, revenue from Nintendo's dedicated video game platform segment declined 15.3% to ¥903.3 billion ($5.7 billion).
Switch 2 hardware sales declined 37.4% to 6.49 million units, compared to 10.36 million last year. Nintendo stated that despite this decrease, "many consumers continued to adopt the system, spurred on by factors like the release of new titles."
Notable releases included Splatoon Raiders in July (2.42 million units), Star Fox in June (1.17 million), and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave in September (1.34 million). Overall, Switch 2 software sales rose 18.8% to 24.49 million units, up from 20.62 million last year.
Original Switch hardware sales decreased 32.7% to 1.27 million units, down from 1.89 million last year. The OLED model led sales with 63,000 units, followed by the OG Switch at 35,000 and the Lite at 29,000.
