New Cozy MMO on Steam Quietly Makes Stardew Valley Look Like Old News

Cozy games have become a huge part of the modern gaming landscape, yet even with all these new releases, it feels as though many of them are still stuck in the past. That is all about to change with the launch of Loftia, a cozy MMO about building a life in the sky that is looking to shake up the genre in a big way by moving away from the formula popularized by Stardew Valley and towards a more cooperative focus on working together and creating a sustainable life as a community.

After a successful Kickstarter that raised over $1 million, the game is now set to enter Early Access on November 3rd, which will include a large story arc across three regions as well as a long list of features which will only grow as we get closer to launch. What makes Loftia so exciting is how well it fills a niche that was previously lacking, as while there are literally thousands of comfy co-op farming games out there, there are virtually no cozy true MMOs where the world you live in actually feels like a neighborhood of friends, and certainly none set floating above the clouds.

Stardew Valley helped define cozy games, but a decade of games following its formula has left the genre crowded and increasingly short on new ideas.

For the longest time, the cozy genre has been dominated by games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing. And because of the success and simplicity of those games, many other developers have chosen to take their spin on the cozy formula , changing the setting or story but keeping the comfy farming and life-sim at the center.
