Eastwood's story about the most lethal sniper in US military history has a new home
While Clint Eastwood is often associated with the Dirty Harry franchise and Westerns such as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, The Outlaw Josey Wales, and Unforgiven, as a director, he's frequently explored stories of war. After directing Heartbreak Ridge in 1986, Eastwood returned to war stories in a big way in the 2000s, with back-to-back World War II movies Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima.
In 2014, Eastwood made what appears to be his final war film — he is 96 years old, after all — the Bradley Cooper-led biographical war drama-thriller American Sniper. After an extended stint streaming on Netflix, Eastwood's blockbuster war thriller has moved to a new streaming home.
In the U.S., Netflix removed American Sniper at the beginning of November. The war thriller has since found a new streaming home on Peacock in the U.S., and is available to stream on Netflix and HBO Max in other territories.
American Sniper stars Bradley Cooper as U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, and is based on the autobiographical book about "the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history." Cooper earned one of his 12 Academy Award nominations for American Sniper, which was also up for a Best Picture Oscar at the 2015 ceremony.
The adaptation of Kyle's memoir isn't just about the Iraq War or the Navy SEAL's prowess with a rifle, it's about the toll that multiple deployments take on a soldier and the people around him.
