Mass Effect Petition Reaches Massive Milestone

A petition calling on Electronic Arts to "save" Mass Effect has surpassed 100,000 signatures just days after its launch. The campaign's momentum highlights the pressure fans are placing on EA to secure a future for the franchise following news that Mass Effect developer BioWare is closing.

Before the cancellation, BioWare had spent years publicly discussing the next Mass Effect game and said in November 2025 that the project was still in development under a core team led by several veteran developers who worked on the highly lauded original trilogy. The endeavor officially ended no later than October 21, when EA announced that it was closing BioWare and canceling Mass Effect 5 as a result.

As EA closes BioWare and considers what to do with it's IP, the latest Mass Effect leak proves there's still plenty of demand for another game.

The resulting #SaveMassEffect Change.org petition, created on October 21, had surpassed 121,000 signatures by 11:00 a.m. ET on October 24. Its growth accelerated rapidly, with more than 29,000 signatures added on October 22 before the total tripled by the following day. The petition calls on EA to either resume development of Mass Effect 5 with adequate resources or seriously consider licensing the franchise to another studio willing to continue it.

Because the Mass Effect petition is entirely fan-driven, its rapid growth in no way indicates that EA is close to reconsidering its controversial decision. The publisher's October 21 announcement was framed as final, meaning any reversal prompted by fan pressure would likely require a response far greater than the low-six-digit signatures amassed so far.
