Lord of the Rings Director Says He’s Finally Making His Tintin Sequel

Peter Jackson offered updates on his long awaited Tintin film while teasing Lord of the Rings' future

Tintin fans have been in the wilderness for quite some time. After the Steven Spielberg-directed The Adventures of Tintin hit theaters in 2011, Spielberg and producer Peter Jackson confirmed that a sequel was on the way. This follow-up was originally promised for sometime in 2014 or 2015, with Jackson directing. Needless to say, that didn’t happen.

Thankfully, Jackson finally gave another update on this long-awaited Tintin sequel. At the Sitges Film Festival (which is dedicated to fantasy, horror, and cult films) in Spain, he reiterated that the movie is still in the works. “We’ve also already written the script for Tintin 2, the second Tintin film. That will be the next film I make,” he said. This backs up what Jackson said in May, when he broke years of silence to confirm a version of the script was done and that he’d be directing the movie.

For those unaware, The Adventures of Tintin is a long-running comic series written and illustrated by Belgian cartoonist Hergé. It originally ran from 1929 to 1976 in France, and followed Tintin, a Belgian reporter accompanied by his dog Snowy. In the 2011 adaptation, Tintin embarks on an adventure to find the treasure of a legendary naval warship, the Unicorn.

Beyond Tintin, Jackson gave some updates on the future of The Lord of the Rings movies. He confirmed that The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is almost finished filming, with about two weeks of shooting left.
