Nike’s Rugged Air Max Foamposite Boot Is Coming Back — and the Timing Couldn’t Be Any Better

With winter on the horizon and a renewed interest in Nike's Foamposite boots, the Foamdome revival should be welcomed with open arms.

A cult-favorite Nike boot blending one of the sportswear company’s cutting-edge 1990s basketball innovations with its rugged outdoor ACG line is making a comeback to retail in a fan-favorite colorway — and it’s poised to arrive at a time of renewed interest for both Nike categories.

Set to be released Nov. 5 is the Nike Air Max Foamdome in its “Eggplant” colorway. With an official color code of Electro Purple/Black, the Eggplant nickname has stuck ever since the shade appeared on the Air Foamposite One in 2009. Like many of the Foamposite’s most popular styles, the Eggplant look features a color-shifting upper which is predominantly purple yet changes its appearance depending on lighting conditions.

First introduced to retail during the winter of 2008, the model was originally branded as the Nike ACG Air Max Foamdome and, as its name suggests, was an amalgamation of the futuristic Air Foamposite One basketball sneaker and the rugged ACG Air Max Goadome boot. With both models being favorites amongst the D.C., Maryland and Virginia (DMV) region, it only made sense that Nike would fuse the two trending designs to make for an extra-heavy duty winter boot.

The concept saw the Air Foamposite One’s wavy molded polyurethane shell get extended to a high-top silhouette while adding in the ACG Air Max Goadome’s black leather components at the toe box, eyestay and heel.
