Jujutsu Kaisen Is Replacing Sukuna As Japan's Strongest

Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, was largely considered to be the strongest sorcerer in the history of Japan. Initially, Sukuna lived in the Heian era, but was reincarnated in the modern era, where he, alongside Gojo Satoru, stood as the two mightiest sorcerers. Eventually, Gojo lost the battle of the strongest, leaving Ryomen Sukuna behind as Japan's strongest. Although Sukuna lost in Shinjuku, he was still largely the strongest character. He was vastly superior to any other sorcerer alive at the moment, and lost because the plot required him to.

Now, however, in the new era established by Gege Akutami in Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, Sukuna has been replaced as Japan's strongest of all time by none other than the boy who started off as his very vessel, the protagonist of the series, Yuji Itadori.

When Ryomen Sukuna was reincarnated in the modern era, he did so inside the body of Yuji Itadori, who ended up becoming his vessel. His plan was to eventually take over Yuji's body after he was fully reincarnated following the consumption of all 20 fingers, and then fulfill his desire. However, the downside of all this was that Yuji was constantly being bathed in Sukuna's Cursed Energy, which eventually granted his very own Cursed Technique to Yuji Itadori.

In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 257, which was officially released on April 22, 2024, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 21, Yuji Itadori finally awakened his own version of the Shrine . This, when combined with all the other abilities that he gained, allowed him to defeat Ryomen Sukuna for good.
