iPhone Duo Preorders Are Live, But Shipping Is Already Pushed into 2027

If you’re planning to preorder an iPhone Duo, you’ll want to do so ASAP. The official release date is October 23, and preorders just began this morning. However, unless you’ve already locked in your preorder, you’ll have to wait several months to get your hands on Apple’s first foldable phone (unless you're willing to shell out nearly $5,000 on eBay, anyway). Even if you preorder now, at the time of this writing, you won’t get your iPhone Duo until late January 2027.

The iPhone Duo represents the most drastic change in form factor Apple has ever introduced in its smartphone lineup. Shaped basically like a passport, it’s made up of two ultra-thin panels. When folded, it has a 5.4-inch front screen you can use to access anything on your phone. But if you unfold it — which initiates an extremely cool animation — the device turns into a wide 7.6-inch display that’s basically the size of an iPad mini. It’s really cool.

Apple has adapted the iOS software for the new form factor as well. Instead of the dock being the bottom row of icons like on a standard iPhone, the dock is shifted to a vertical column on the right side of the display. This makes them easier to access with the wide form factor (for right-handed folks, anyway). You can also use apps in full-screen or use two apps side by side. Basically, any way you fold or unfold the device, iOS adapts.

The inner display uses wide-angle OLEDs, and has a 3,000-nit peak brightness.
