We’re returning to the Ocarina of Time in a little over two weeks as Nintendo’s Switch 2 remake of one of the best games of all time releases on November 5. We’re learning more and more about the Ocarina remake all the time, including how much room we’re going to have to make for it on our consoles when it gets here.
Nintendo’s store page for Ocarina of Time still doesn’t mention its file size. However, since products are now out in the wild ready for release day, items confirming the game’s size have been discovered. That includes a download card, shared by Genki, confirming the Ocarina remake is 27 GB.
That’s pretty modest in today’s landscape, but first-party Nintendo games often are and, even on Switch 2, rarely creep above the 30 GB mark. It’s impressive how compact it is, but it’s still a significant step up in file size from other Zelda games, old and new.
Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are two of the biggest, most detailed games Nintendo has ever made. However, Nintendo somehow managed to keep their respective file sizes incredibly modest. The sprawling Breath of the Wild only requires 14.4 GB of storage, while the even bigger and more feature-heavy Tears of the Kingdom only needs a little more at 16.5 GB.
That means the Ocarina of Time remake’s file size is almost the same as BOTW and TOTK combined. On the one hand, surprising since Ocarina is a far more linear game without the huge open world Hyrule that forms the base of the newer two Zelda games.
