Sony Santa Monica has announced it has made the decision to delay God of War Laufey. The upcoming spinoff game of the iconic PlayStation series was initially slated to be released next February, but players will now have to wait a few extra months to get their hands on it. The studio has set a new release date for the PlayStation 5 exclusive, pushing the game to May 2027.
Son's Santa Monica Studio made the announcement in a statement on X, explaining that it will use the extra time to push the game to its fullest potential. Here's the studio's full message:
Since the reveal of God of War Laufey in June, we’ve been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye’s journey through the Everywhen. We don’t take for granted the trust placed in our studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans.
With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to delay God of War Laufey’s release to May 20th, 2027.
We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential.
On behalf of everyone on the team, we appreciate your patience and we’ll be back to share more updates soon!
Laufey stars Deborah Ann Woll in the titular role, the wife of longtime series protagonist Kratos. Faye (as she is referred to) was first introduced in God of War (2018), which begins with her funeral, but players never actually met her until 2022's God of War Ragnarök , in which Woll first portrayed her.
