God of War Laufey Delayed to May 2027

God of War Laufey will no longer be released in February, as Sony Santa Monica has pushed it back to May 2027.

The game will now launch on May 20, 2027, with the studio stating that it needs more time to make a product that meets fans' expectations. Sony Santa Monica also confirmed it would share more details on the game soon. It's possible we'll see something at The Game Awards, but there could also be a new State of Play before the end of the year (or very early 2027) that may reveal more about the next God of War installment.

God of War Laufey had previously been slated to release on February 16, 2027. This window has become exceptionally crowded, especially after some games like Fable pivoted from a fall 2026 release to early 2027 to avoid the blast zone of GTA 6. This will not only give God of War some space to breathe, but potentially allow other games to stretch their wings that may not be as high on the priority list for gamers compared to a new first-party PlayStation game.

God of War Laufey has been met with no shortage of skepticism and criticism from some gamers , partially due to the fact that Kratos has been sidelined as the main character. As a result, it will be important for Santa Monica Studio to be on their A-game and deliver something exceptional. If there's anything that falls short of expectations, the internet will ruthlessly pick it apart, regardless of it's actually fair to do so.
