Gang Of Dragon Developer Nagoshi Studio Officially Shut Down

Following a tumultuous year that started with the reveal of its ambitious new game, Gang of Dragon, reports that Nagoshi Studio has been shuttered have been confirmed. There were reports that the developer had shut down after ten months of radio silence exactly one month ago, and now its closure is official.

On October 31, 2026, the Japanese government gazette Kanpo announced that Nagoshi had been dissolved via shareholder resolution (thanks, Gematsu). That means that, less than 11 months after the new studio showed its first game to the world during 2025's Game Awards, that studio now no longer exists.

Nagoshi Studio was formed by Toshiro Nagoshi, the mind behind the Yakuza games, hence the excitement among fans of the series when the developer formed his own studio. Gang of Dragon got its big reveal during last year's Game Awards, showing off Ma Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee, who played roles in Death Stranding 2 and Marvel's Eternals, in the game's lead roles.

The trailer seemingly did exactly what it needed to do, generating excitement not only among Yakuza fans, but also pulling in others thanks to its big-name actor. However, it only took a few months for all of that positive buzz to completely vanish when plans at Nagoshi seemingly started to unravel.

Nagoshi had NetEase funding behind it, which was why Gang of Dragon was such an ambitious project. However, for reasons that remain unknown, considering the successful reveal, NetEase pulled the studio's funding during the first few months of 2026.
