Fortnite's recently launched One Piece crossover event sent players hunting for a rare Pirate Shop Token that would let them plunder the item shop for free. Those lucky enough to find the token can use it to claim almost everything available for free for a two week period (real-money offers, gifting and Battle Pass rewards aren’t allowed). Claimed items remain permanently on the player’s account.
But, perhaps inevitably, players are now doing things that developer Epic Games would probably prefer the didn't in a bid to get ahead, sharing exploits, selling tools to automatically farm the token, and even offering to chaperone other players for a fee.
There’s no official drop rate, but players have estimated you get the token in one out of every 700,000 chests. Like I said, it’s rare. Players have found ways to expedite the process of triggering the drop. Current methods include using grenades and cannon balls to destroy chests inside locked vaults, so they can open many chests at once without going through the effort of getting a key.
One player shared a screenshot of an overlay that shows them where all the chests are in a match, while offering to help people get the token, for a paid fee. Clearly, this is not intended gameplay.
