Unspecified number of employees affected, studio "remains committed to its partner projects and our teams moving forward"
German developer Fishlabs has announced workforce reductions impacting its development and support teams.
The studio has not specified the number of affected employees, stating the decision was driven by "changing project requirements and the needs of our clients and internal teams."
"We are deeply grateful to everyone affected for their passion, dedication, and contribution to Fishlabs. This decision is not a reflection of their talent or performance, and we are committed to supporting them with care and respect as they take their next steps."
"Fishlabs remains committed to its partner projects and our teams moving forward. For today, however, our priority is supporting the colleagues and friends who are leaving us."
Fishlabs was last affected by job cuts in 2023, when the studio downsized by 50 roles as part of Embracer Group's restructuring program. Fishlabs is a subsidiary of Plaion, which is part of Embracer's portfolio.
Fishlabs was founded in 2004 by Michael Schade and Christian Lohr, and later acquired by Plaion (then known as Koch Media) in 2013.
This followed Fishlabs' filing for the equivalent of bankruptcy, which resulted in the termination of 25 positions.
Schade and Lohr soon left the company and founded Everspace developer Rockfish Games in 2014.
We spoke to Schade earlier this year after Rockfish was awarded €8 million from the German government's expanded €125 million games fund to support the development of the next game in the Everspace shooter franchise.
