Nintendo has been earning fans' good graces lately with their commitment to physical releases and the sheer excitement surrounding the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. While The Legend of Zelda series has had a legendary run over its past few releases, a recent reveal shows that one of the most ambitious entries in the series will never even see the light of day.
In an exclusive report shared by Insider Gaming, Ubisoft was tasked with making its own entry in the iconic fantasy series just a few years ago in 2023, which would have starred none other than The Legend of Zelda's most iconic villain, Ganondorf.
While it might seem odd to hear that Ubisoft, of all companies, was making an entry for Nintendo's first-party franchise, the project pitch was initially accepted after the wide success of the Mario and Rabbids games. Originally planned to be a spinoff set in the world of The Legend of Zelda as opposed to a direct prequel or sequel, which also would have starred a completely new protagonist.
Although Nintendo "liked the concept", the company requested that Ubisoft instead change the protagonist to Ganondorf, which Milan continued to develop under the codename Goliath that reportedly "reflected the scale of what Ubisoft Milan aimed to develop."
Uli Latukefu had signed a "multi-picture deal" to play Ganondorf, corroborating earlier rumors of a trilogy.
" And honestly, an adventure playing as not only one of the series' strongest villains , but also from a non-Link perspective would have been more than a refreshing experience even without much else.
