Everything Pokémon Announced At The World Championships’ Closing Ceremony

If you haven’t been paying attention this weekend, the biggest Pokémon event of the year wrapped up on Sunday. The World Championships is where the very best of competitive players and the biggest fans (who can get in through its annoying lottery system) gather every year for a weekend of tournaments, fan events, and inevitably, scalpers ruining the fun for everyone. Each year, The Pokémon Company crowns new champions across Go, the Trading Card Game, and, for the first time this year, Pokémon Champions, and once the competition is over, we get a sneak peek at what’s to come for the series. If you weren’t able to watch the closing ceremony live, here’s everything we saw.

After a musical performance by Loren Allred and an intro from Pokémon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara, kicking off the announcements was Pokémon Go, which is allowing Mega Evolved Pokémon to participate in official competitive play. This will begin with the Go Fest Mega Finale event starting on September 5. Armored Mewtwo, will also be returning to the game for the first time in six years.

Next is an update on the Trading Card Game , which is getting a new set called TKTK, which is adding cards several Mega Evolutions that were introduced in Legends: Z-A , such as the Z Mega Evolutions that were added in Mega Dimension DLC. The Legendary Beasts will also be featured. A new card called ex star is also coming, but there weren’t any details.
