Ed Boon Issues Public Statement on Injustice 3

NetherRealm Studios Chief Creative Officer and Mortal Kombat series co-creator Ed Boon has just issued his first public statement concerning the recent leaks that a new Injustice: Gods Among Us is in development. Unfortunately, Boon denies every Injustice rumor that's sprouted up in recent weeks, but interestingly, he doesn't deny the game's existence altogether.

Released in 2013, Injustice: Gods Among Us saw the long-time Mortal Kombat developer forging a fighting game experience focused solely on the DC Universe. Generally speaking, Injustice performed well critically, especially when compared to NetherRealm's Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, which received a rather lukewarm reception five years prior. NetherRealm delivered a full-fledged Injustice sequel in May 2017, which received similarly positive reviews from critics, though its loot box system was a common point of contention.

A brand-new Injustice release is confirmed for September 23, bringing a popular hero to NetherRealm's DC fighting game franchise.

On September 21, a new NetherRealm Studios-related rumor hit the internet. Circulated by FGCentel on Twitter, this new rumor claimed that NetherRealm was partnering with Insomniac Games to "deliver the first AAAA" fighting game. Ed Boon replied to the rumor on Twitter with a simple: "100% false. Next rumor please."

In the comments of Boon's reply, an account named TotalMK took the long-time developer up on his challenge, and provided him with several recent rumors regarding NetherRealm Studios' next, yet-unannounced game. TotalMK asked if NetherRealm is player-testing Injustice 3 , Mortal Kombat 13 , or a Mortal Kombat 9 remaster right now, to which Boon replied, "All false," seemingly disproving every NetherRealm-related rumor from the past few weeks.
