Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is a Disgrace to Akira Toriyama's Legacy

Despite an incredibly strong start in the first two episodes, the cracks are finally starting to show for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus as Episode 3 introduces a myriad of problems – including a series-ruining change tied to Vegeta. Dragon Ball has always been at its best when its battles are rooted in the characters themselves and while Dragon Ball Super: Beerus was marketed as true to Toriyama's vision, it's becoming painfully clear that's anything but true.

While Goku's endless pursuit of strength has defined much of the franchise, Vegeta's journey from a ruthless Saiyan prince to one of Earth's strongest heroes has been just as compelling. Unfortunately, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is already making some baffling changes to Akira Toriyama's original story. The remake is actively undermining Vegeta's character development while making Goku's eventual decision to become a Super Saiyan God far less meaningful.

From mastering God Ki all by himself to mutating the transformation in ways not even Goku can, Vegeta is the Ultimate super Saiyan Blue master.

Part of what makes Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods such a great movie is that it really understands who Goku and Vegeta are as characters, taking their development from the end of DBZ and using the film's story as a way to analyze their strengths, flaws, and areas where they can still grow.
