Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Confirms Goku & Yamoshi Are Related By Blood

In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Yamoshi’s original design strongly resembled Vegeta, implying he was a member of the eventual Saiyan Royal Family. Of course, this could not be the case given that Yamoshi rebelled against the ruling class Evil Saiyans, but he kept his Vegeta-inspired hairstyle in the Dragon Ball Super anime. As the definitive version of Akira Toriyama’s story, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is making changes to anything non-canon. Interestingly, Yamoshi has received a new design.

Yamoshi’s redesign was teased all the way back in Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Episode 1. Beerus has a vision of himself fighting the prophesied Super Saiyan God, who looks like Goku. The thing is, Beerus is not a mind reader and he does not have prophetic dreams. The Super Saiyan God that Beerus is fighting in his mind is not Goku, but Yamoshi – the two Saiyans look alike because they're actually related. This is a connection hinted at in Dragon Ball Legends that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus has finally confirmed with its Yamoshi redesign.

Although most fans would assume Goku was always stronger than Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z, this wasn't necessarily the case.

While the clips seen in Beerus' dreams are meant to set up and foreshadow his battle with Super Saiyan God, he's not literally seeing the future.
