The Saiyans have come a long way since Goku first transformed into a Super Saiyan in Dragon Ball Z. What was once considered the peak of Saiyan power has become just another stepping stone, with Goku and Vegeta becoming literal Gods in Dragon Ball Super. They aren't the only Saiyans to get a taste of godlike power, however.
Some Saiyans became Gods by training with the Gods themselves, while others unlocked divine new transformations through their own raw talent and natural power. Only a select few Saiyans have achieved Godhood in Dragon Ball, but those who have are among the strongest characters in the entire franchise.

Yamoshi was the original Super Saiyan, the original Super Saiyan God, the original Legendary Super Saiyan, or all three depending on who you ask. One thing is certain about Yamoshi, however – Saiyan Godhood starts with him. Yamoshi was a powerful Ancient Saiyan who rebelled against the Evil Saiyans of his era, using the power of the Super Saiyan to bring peace to his world.
Until his power eventually failed him. Despite his legendary strength, Yamoshi was murdered by multiple Saiyan warriors.
