Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3's online servers are temporarily going dark, FromSoftware announces

Things might get even darker over in the world of Lordran without those silly, only sometimes helpful notes left by other players. Developer FromSoftware has announced that it's temporarily closing Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 servers because of an unspecified issue.

"Due to a server issue, the game servers for the following titles will be temporarily unavailable on all platforms," the RPG studio tweeted earlier today, before naming Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3.

While the server shutdown won't last forever, FromSoftware hasn't told series fans when exactly they can expect online play to be restored. That presumably means PvP invasions, summon signs and in-game messages that try to troll you off a cliff are unavailable for the time being.

"We will provide updates once we have information regarding the server restoration time. We apologize for the inconvenience," the studio added. I hope you've stocked up on Estus Flasks, at least.

Of course, this isn't the first time the Dark Souls trilogy has had to contend with server problems. In 2022, Bandai Namco took servers for all three Dark Souls games offline due to a security vulnerability affecting Dark Souls 3. The threequel went dark once again a few months later.

FromSoftware's next game The Duskbloods - the one with the jetpacks and vampires and a cute bird thing - hasn't been any luckier, either. The multiplayer-focused game's first network test had to be taken offline early due to similarly vague "server issues". More recently, FromSoftware delayed its Switch 2 exclusive into next year.
