On October 3, 2026, one of the most popular shonen series returned after a 5-year-long hiatus, and that was Yuki Tabata's Black Clover. Black Clover Season 2 has, since its return, been a major success. We've seen its growing popularity over various rating platforms, such as MyAnimeList and IMDb, but more recently, Black Clover's fame has reached new heights on the biggest anime platform outside of Japan, Crunchyroll.
Black Clover Season 2 has now cemented itself as the number one anime on Crunchyroll based on viewership for the 2026 October quarter. This story has continued to make waves, and it still has better content on the way for all of us. With more high-octane action and gripping story events, it is highly likely to be a contender for the title of Anime of the Year in 2027.
Black Clover endured quite a rough beginning when its anime debuted in 2017. Back then, the manga was picked up by Studio Pierrot, and over the 4 years that followed, they went on to adapt into 170 weekly episodes a total of 272 chapters, across the board. What's worse, this adaptation was extremely low-quality for the most part, and left much to be desired.
In 2021, the series went on hiatus due to the anime having almost caught up with the manga. The wait was long, but finally, after 5 years, Black Clover returned on October 3, 2026, with Season 2 Episode 1 continuing the Spade Kingdom Raid arc and picking things up from where they had last stopped.
