'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Star Breaks Silence on Canceled Hulu Sequel

It's been a tough year for Buffy the VampireSlayer fans. In March, Buffy Summers herself (Sarah Michelle Gellar) broke the news that a planned series revival starring a new slayer (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) and featuring Gellar in a supporting role had been canceled. A pilot episode for the Hulu series, titled Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale, had already been filmed by showrunner Chloé Zhao (Hamnet, Nomadland, The Eternals) when the streamer pulled the plug on the entire thing, rather than attempt to reshoot or rewrite the first episode. Five months later, we still don't know exactly what went wrong or who (if anyone) is to blame. It's possible we never will.
