Anytime Blacksad artist Juanjo Guarnido announces a new project, we're going to take notice. That's what makes the new graphic novel A Scoundrel in the New World so exciting. This new satirical adventure graphic novel explores the legendary Treasure of El Dorado as only Guarnido could render it.
With the Kickstarter campaign for A Scoundrel in the New World live now, IGN can exclusively debut a new preview of the book. Check it out in the slideshow gallery below:
A Scoundrel in the New World is written by Alain Ayroles (Garulfo) and illustrated by Guarnido. The book acts as a sequel to Francisco de Quevedo’s 1626 novel The Life of the Swindler named Don Pablos. It's published in a partnership between Oni Press and Magnetic Press. Here's the official summary of the project:
“A Scoundrel in the New World may be Juanjo Guarnido’s most ambitious work to date, even compared to his work as the co-creator and artist of the world-famous Blacksad series,” said Magnetic Press’ Director of Publishing, Mike Kennedy, in a statement. “Every panel is a painting, filled with immaculate historical detail, expressive characters, and cinematic lighting that really brings the period to life with vibrant intensity. Alain Ayroles’ script is a brilliant homage to the Golden Age of Spanish literature, a witty and somewhat cynical tale employing a shifting ‘Rashomon-style’ perspective that keeps the reader questioning the protagonist’s credibility until the final page.
